i agree with some of the reply's above in regards to finding a corporation to join. and yes people do go around exploring. check the markets to see where you might be able to start making some isk or go into some low level complexes for item drops.

When you anchor your can(s) make sure they are within the range of your mining lasers (10k) from the ore you want to mine and at least 5k away from any other object. This way all you have to do is have your can open while you sit on top of it and ...

Work on getting your communication (level 3) and connection skills (level 3) up. Agents will offer you more money and you can get access to higher level agents (even bigger rewards). I would also consider trading even as a means of generating isk.

I'm pretty sure there aren't any mining agents. If you look at your map and select show agent you can see what agents are available to you and thier corresponding discipline.

At first I believe you options are kinda limited to trader, fighter or miner. Later in the game you can get into other "careers" like production ,logistics or bounty hunter. I am sure there are more. You kinda just got to find your niche and learn...

I have ran slaves before through minmatar space. I think there is a 60% chance of getting scanned. When moving contraband I think you just have to take your chances.
